₦100M START-UP GRANT: SPEAKER ABBAS BACKS ZARIA VOCATIONAL GRADUATES
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has pledged a N100 million start-up capital for graduates of the Zainab Ahmed ICT/Vocational Centre in Zaria Federal Constituency.
The announcement was made on Sunday during the centre’s graduation ceremony, part of events marking Abbas’ second anniversary as Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives. The occasion was attended by federal and Kaduna State lawmakers.
“We won’t train you and abandon you,” Abbas told the graduates. “Starter packs will be provided so you can kick off your own businesses and make the most of this opportunity.”
Reflecting on his upbringing in Zaria, the Speaker emphasized his belief in education and skills development as tools for empowerment and community growth. “In the last two years, we’ve improved schools, built institutions, supported traders and teachers, and empowered our youth with timeless skills,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of ICT in today’s world, urging the graduates to embrace digital tools and creativity. “This is the age where your ideas and skills can connect you to global opportunities. A phone, a laptop, or internet access can be your gateway to success.”
Abbas praised the graduates for their dedication, encouraging them to continue learning, start businesses, and create opportunities for others. “I see the future in your eyes,” he said. “Go out there and make us proud.”
He concluded by thanking the people of Zaria for their continued support and promised to keep working towards greater opportunities and community development. “With your prayers and partnership, we will do even more. No one will be left behind,” he assured.
