At least 11 people have lost their lives after a vehicle reportedly plunged off a bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in a tragic road accident.

The fatal crash, which occurred on Thursday, caused panic among commuters and residents in the area as emergency responders rushed to the scene.

According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle lost control before crashing through the bridge barrier and falling off the bridge. Several passengers were said to have been trapped in the wreckage.

Emergency officials and security operatives later recovered the bodies of the victims while rescue efforts continued at the scene.

Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the accident, but preliminary reports suggest excessive speed or possible mechanical failure may have contributed to the crash.

The incident led to heavy traffic along the busy expressway as motorists gathered around the scene while emergency teams worked to clear the wreckage.

Road safety officials have since urged motorists to drive cautiously and ensure their vehicles are in proper condition before travelling, especially on major highways.
