The president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, has said that 12 of the world’s 20 fastest-growing economies are currently in Africa.

Adesina made the statement while highlighting the continent’s economic potential and resilience despite ongoing global financial and geopolitical challenges.

According to him, several African countries continue to record strong growth driven by sectors such as technology, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and digital services.

He noted that the continent possesses significant opportunities for investment, innovation, and industrial expansion capable of transforming long-term economic development.

The AfDB president also stressed the importance of improving infrastructure, strengthening governance, and increasing support for youth entrepreneurship to sustain growth momentum across Africa.

Economists say the statement reflects increasing optimism about Africa’s role in the global economy, particularly as emerging markets continue to attract investor interest.

Adesina further called for stronger regional integration and strategic investments to unlock the continent’s full economic potential.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
