Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, will award First Class Honours to 154 students at its 2nd Combined Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Saturday.

The Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Yakasai, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing held at the institution’s Senate Building.

According to him, a total of 4,109 students will graduate across six academic sessions. The breakdown includes 154 First Class, 1,326 Second Class Upper, 1,954 Second Class Lower, 649 Third Class, and 26 Pass degrees.

Yakasai highlighted key academic and structural advancements within the university, including the introduction of postgraduate programmes and the restructuring of the School of Preliminary Studies into the School of Preliminary and Continuing Education.

He also noted improvements in infrastructure, such as new academic buildings, hostels, a modern library, and research centres, alongside the adoption of solar energy and ICT solutions to enhance campus efficiency.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the institution’s commitment to staff and student welfare, citing initiatives like subsidised transportation and accommodation.

He acknowledged the support of the Jigawa State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund in driving the university’s growth, adding that multiple NELFUND disbursements have benefited students.

Yakasai further revealed plans to establish a College of Medicine to expand academic offerings and contribute to Nigeria’s healthcare sector by producing qualified medical professionals.

He, however, appealed for additional government support in staffing and accommodation to sustain quality teaching, research, and continued development of the institution.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
