160 Uniben Students Inducted As Lab Technologists
The Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) on Wednesday inducted 160 graduates from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) into the science laboratory profession.
Speaking at the university's 12th oath-taking and induction ceremony, the acting Director General of NISLT, Mr. Paul Oluwafisoye, described the laboratory not merely as a workplace, but as a sanctuary of science, innovation, and national development. He encouraged the inductees to wear the SLT badge with pride and commit themselves to the profession's core values.
“Let integrity, lifelong learning, professional ethics, and dedication to national progress guide your journey,” Oluwafisoye said. “Your advancement in the field will depend on the value you offer, your adaptability, and your commitment to continuous improvement.”
He also charged the new professionals to embody the ideals of Science Laboratory Technology in their careers, stressing the nation’s need for bold, skilled, and visionary scientists to address pressing developmental and scientific challenges. He emphasized that the training they received equips them to design, develop, and maintain innovations that serve humanity.
In his remarks, UNIBEN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba Omorogie, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Ekenwan campus, Prof. Buniyamin Ayinde, congratulated the inductees, describing the ceremony as a major milestone in their academic and professional journey.
“You have proven yourselves worthy in both character and learning,” he said. “This moment should not be an endpoint but a launchpad for greater accomplishments that will make your families, the university, and the nation proud.”
He also urged the inductees to uphold ethical standards, avoid shortcuts, and be exemplary ambassadors of the university wherever they go.
Induction lecturer, Prof. Marshall Azeke, speaking on the theme “Science Laboratory Technology: Catalyst for Industrial Innovation and National Development,” reminded the graduates that their expertise has national relevance and should be used to solve real-world problems while staying current with professional advancements.
Head of the SLT department, Prof. Emmanuel Oshomoh, encouraged the inductees to allow the oath they swore to serve as a compass in their professional conduct and leadership roles.
Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Tunde Imoobe, underscored the vital contributions of laboratory scientists to scientific research, healthcare, and innovation.
