Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 20 individuals in connection with alleged electoral offences during the February 21, 2026, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, in a bid to curb vote trading and related violations.

In a statement on its official X page, the commission said the suspects were apprehended across the FCT for offences such as vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of electoral officers, involving a total of N17,218,700.

The EFCC revealed that “one of the suspects was arrested with N13,500,000 in a car parked beside a polling booth in Kwali Local Government Area.”

The arrests were made in various locations within the territory, with two suspects in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali.

The agency noted that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat electoral malpractice and ensure compliance with the law during the local government polls.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution upon completion of the process. “The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the EFCC added.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
