2027: AISHA YESUFU LEAVES OBI LOYALTY ON CONDITIONS AS NDC SENATE RACE HEATS UP

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has withdrawn her support for Peter Obi and the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 elections, citing specific conditions that must be met before she can reconsider her position.

Yesufu, a vocal critic of bad governance and one of the most visible faces of the #EndSARS movement, made the announcement on Friday. She said her decision was not personal but based on principle and the current direction of the opposition.

In a strongly worded statement, the activist declared that she would no longer give automatic loyalty to any politician or party. She, however, left the door open for possible reconciliation if Peter Obi and the Labour Party address key issues she raised, particularly around internal democracy, inclusiveness, and clear ideological direction.

Her move comes as the race for the Senate under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) intensifies. Several high-profile figures are already positioning themselves for senatorial tickets, and Yesufu’s influence is being keenly watched by political actors.

Yesufu said she remains committed to good governance and the welfare of Nigerians but will no longer tie herself to any individual or political platform without clear accountability.

Many young Nigerians who looked up to her as a symbol of resistance have reacted with mixed feelings. While some expressed disappointment, others praised her for refusing to be taken for granted and for putting principles above personalities.

As the 2027 political season gathers momentum, Aisha Yesufu’s decision is likely to reshape conversations within the opposition space, especially among youth and civil society groups.

She is expected to make further statements in the coming weeks regarding her political plans.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
