2027: AMAECHI RULES OUT VICE-PRESIDENTIAL ROLE, REJECTS ATIKU DEPUTIZING OFFER

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he will not serve as vice president to any presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.

Speculation had suggested that Amaechi might run as the running mate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is emerging as a leading contender for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.

However, speaking at an event in Abuja, Amaechi emphasized that he considers himself “too presidential” to occupy the vice-presidential seat.

“I will not be vice president to anybody. There are too many reasons why I won’t take that position. The first reason is that I’m too presidential to be vice,” he stated.

Amaechi, who is also pursuing the ADC presidential nomination, noted that the challenges of the vice presidency are structural rather than ceremonial. He explained that in Nigeria, the role of vice president is often subordinate, largely powerless, and dependent on the disposition of the president.

“We would end up quarreling; instead of that, I would rather serve as a minister than as a vice president,” he added.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
