2027: DENY OBI PRESIDENTIAL TICKET AND LOSE HIS SUPPORTERS – KEYAMO WARNS COALITION

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has warned the newly formed opposition coalition that it risks alienating Peter Obi’s vast support base if it fails to give him the 2027 presidential ticket.

Keyamo made this assertion in response to the coalition’s decision to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official political platform, a move he believes ultimately benefits the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He described the formation of the ADC-led alliance as a collapse of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that older figures in the PDP had been sidelined by younger ones, resulting in a loose coalition of displaced political heavyweights seeking renewed relevance.

Keyamo suggested that by aligning with ADC, coalition members may have legally and politically abandoned their original parties, which could potentially disqualify them from electoral contests if they attempt to operate under multiple banners.

He dismissed the defection of a few APC members to the opposition alliance, arguing that these were individuals who had either opposed President Bola Tinubu in 2023 or failed to win their constituencies, rendering their exit a non-issue and even a plus for the APC.

On Peter Obi’s role in the coalition, Keyamo accused certain leaders—particularly former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—of attempting to leverage Obi’s popularity without giving him a fair stake in the alliance’s leadership structure.

“They want Obi’s votes but not the presidential ticket. It’s Atiku’s show, pure and simple. That’s why David Mark is interim Chairman. Everyone who understands politics knows what this means,” Keyamo stated.

He further argued that denying Obi the ticket would be politically unwise, pointing out that Obi won two regions (South-East and South-South) in the last election, compared to Atiku’s win in just one region (North-East).

“If you don’t give Peter Obi the presidential ticket, you lose his supporters. It’s as simple as that,” he warned.

The coalition formally adopted the ADC as its platform during a high-level meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, ending months of speculation. As part of the new structure, David Mark was named interim National Chairman, while former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was appointed interim National Secretary.

Key political figures in the coalition include Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, all of whom are expected to play leading roles in challenging President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
