Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has declared that northern Nigeria will rally behind a presidential candidate who truly understands and is ready to fix the region’s problems — regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political party.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Lawal revealed that a coalition of northern politicians, under the banner of the Nigerian People’s Consultative Political Forum (North), has resolved to vote as a single bloc in 2027. The goal: to ensure unity and secure leadership that delivers real solutions.

“This time, our parameters have changed. Whoever emerges must understand our problems and be willing to confront them — even if the person is from heaven,” Lawal stressed.

The ex-SGF, who backed Peter Obi in 2023 and still insists Obi was the “true winner” of that election, hinted he may not support him in 2027. He named heavyweights like Rotimi Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar, and Obi among potential contenders, but warned that the north’s decision will rest solely on merit.

According to Lawal, without unity, the region cannot achieve its political goals. The forum believes that only by voting as one can the north secure meaningful change in the next administration.
