2027: GOODLUCK JONATHAN REPORTEDLY SET TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT AGAIN
2027 Presidency: Jonathan Reportedly Ready to Contest, Begins High-Level Consultations
Former President Goodluck Jonathan may be gearing up for a political comeback in the 2027 presidential election, according to a close ally within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
As reported by Vanguard, the ally claims that discussions to bring Jonathan back into the presidential race have advanced significantly—and the former leader has already agreed in principle to run.
The source said the move is being driven by a coalition of prominent Nigerian elders and political leaders who believe Jonathan's past leadership brought relative stability to the country. They are now urging him to return and "rescue" Nigeria from worsening poverty, economic hardship, and widespread insecurity.
“Jonathan has met with influential figures in and outside the PDP,” the source revealed, noting that one of such meetings was with former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), at his Hilltop Mansion in Minna, Niger State, last weekend.
Though details of IBB’s response remain unknown, the source expressed confidence that northern leaders are already warming up to the idea of Jonathan's return—especially as he is reportedly proposing to serve just one term if elected.
The former president, who hails from Otuoke in Bayelsa State, is also said to be actively consulting key political figures in the South-South, particularly in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of efforts to solidify his support base.
The ally emphasized that the Jonathan campaign project is quietly gaining momentum, even though the former president has not made any public declaration as of now.
“He is focused on reconnecting with stakeholders, listening to concerns, and building consensus. His interest is rooted in finding lasting solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges,” the ally said.
Jonathan served as president from 2010 to 2015. His possible return to the political stage is already stirring mixed reactions among Nigerians, as many recall both the successes and controversies of his administration.
As 2027 approaches, all eyes will be on Jonathan to see if he will officially throw his hat into the ring once again.
