The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that he will consider aligning with a political party ahead of the 2027 general elections only if he is offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.

Kwankwaso made the disclosure while addressing a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, where he spoke on ongoing political realignments ahead of the next general elections.

“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with,” he said. “But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”

His comments come amid speculation that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf may defect from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Responding to the rumors, Kwankwaso dismissed them as unrealistic, describing such claims as “nothing but a dream.”

The former Kano State governor also criticized the political approach under President Bola Tinubu, arguing that numerical strength within a party does not guarantee electoral victory. According to him, having a large number of governors in the APC does not ensure success at the polls; rather, credibility, popular support, and performance remain the key factors in determining electoral outcomes.

Kwankwaso’s remarks have intensified discussions around possible alliances and realignments as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
