A member of the House of Representatives, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, has urged Northern voters to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing his role in Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 presidential victory.

Abubakar, who represents Bichi Federal Constituency and chairs the House Committee on Appropriations, said Tinubu’s political backing helped Buhari win after several unsuccessful attempts.

He spoke during a stakeholders’ meeting and the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress campaign council for Bichi Federal Constituency in Kano State.

The lawmaker said political stakeholders in Kano North had agreed to work towards securing at least one million votes for Tinubu as appreciation for his support for the region.

He also rejected claims that the president’s policies were directed against Northern Nigeria, describing the allegations as politically motivated.

Abubakar pointed to federally supported road construction and other development projects in Kano as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to the state.

According to him, Kano North has approximately 1.3 million registered voters, giving the party a strong base for its mobilisation target. He added that campaign efforts would extend across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

Kano State Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, urged campaign council members to mobilise support for APC candidates while preserving peace.

He encouraged supporters to focus on issues that could persuade voters and avoid actions capable of creating tension.

The Director-General of the APC Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council in Kano, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, also called for stronger engagement with grassroots organisers and youth groups.

Gwarzo expressed confidence in the party’s prospects but urged members to reject violence throughout the campaign period.
