The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ridiculed the suggestion by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that he could defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if given the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement released on Saturday, the APC described Amaechi’s remarks as the “desperate rantings of a political figure clinging to relevance,” asserting that he lacks the credentials, political structure, and nationwide appeal to challenge the president.

“The idea that he could remove a sitting president—elected through a nationwide mandate and enjoying broad respect across regions—under the banner of a marginal party like the ADC is not just unrealistic, it’s ridiculous,” the statement said.

The party also accused the former Rivers State governor of political inconsistency, pointing out that he was unable to secure a win in his own polling unit during the last election. His claim of being familiar with Tinubu’s weaknesses, the statement suggested, was a reflection of bitterness rooted in a troubled political trajectory.

“President Tinubu is known for grooming leaders, strengthening democratic institutions, and delivering results, while Amaechi’s political path has been defined by internal strife, shifting loyalties, and personal ambition,” the APC added.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
