2027: OYO APC LAWMAKERS THROW WEIGHT BEHIND ADELABU’S GOVERNORSHIP BID
The road to the 2027 general elections is already heating up in Oyo State as members of the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have declared their full support for the gubernatorial ambition of Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
At a strategic meeting held in Abuja, six out of the eight APC federal lawmakers from Oyo State pledged their backing for Adelabu, describing his ambition as both timely and the best chance for the party to reclaim the state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The only lawmaker absent, Hon. Tolu Shadipe, who is currently out of the country, sent in her apology.
During the meeting at his office, Adelabu formally informed the lawmakers of his intention to contest the Oyo governorship seat under the APC in 2027, seeking their support for what he termed a mission to reposition Oyo State for accelerated growth.
The lawmakers praised Adelabu’s impressive performance in the power sector, highlighting how he has brought fresh energy, innovation, and visibility to a ministry often fraught with challenges. They noted that his leadership style has earned him both national and international commendations.
They also stressed the urgent need for genuine reconciliation among APC stakeholders in Oyo, emphasising that party unity is critical for success in the upcoming election.
In his response, Adelabu expressed deep gratitude for their solidarity, assuring them of his commitment to people-centred, performance-driven, and inclusive governance. He echoed their call for reconciliation and pledged to work tirelessly to ensure a united APC in Oyo State.
The meeting wrapped up with a shared optimism and a collective commitment to sustained collaboration as the countdown to the 2027 political season begins.
Among those present were Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun, Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, Hon. Akin Alabi, Hon. Lafioye Wasiu Adefisoye, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala, and Hon. Lateef Olaide Muhammed. Also in attendance were respected party leaders, Senator Ayo Adeseun and Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle.
Adelabu confirmed that his next round of consultations will take him to Ogbomosho and Oyo political zones this weekend, where he plans to engage key party leaders and stakeholders as he continues to build momentum toward 2027.
