2027: OYO LAWMAKERS RISK RE-ELECTION OVER LOAN APPROVALS – GROUP
A civic group advocating good governance in Oyo State, the Concerned Youth Movement (CYM), has warned that members of the Oyo State House of Assembly may jeopardise their chances of returning in the 2027 general elections if they continue approving loans without consulting their constituents.
This was contained in a statement signed by CYM Chairman, Pastor Tayo Adigun, and Secretary, Alhaji Olaide Kobomoje.
The controversy follows revelations by lawmaker Ibraheem Shittu, representing Saki West Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), that the Assembly had approved a ₦300 billion loan for Governor Seyi Makinde during an emergency sitting while the House was on recess.
Reacting, CYM criticised the legislators, stressing that the frequent endorsement of loans without proper engagement with the people was a betrayal of public trust and a threat to their political future.
The group accused the lawmakers of mortgaging the state’s future and urged elders in Oyo State to caution them before the situation worsens.
The statement partly read:
“What is the interest of the lawmakers in these loans? Why do they continually approve them without consulting their constituents? They should be mindful of their actions because the day of accountability before the electorate will surely come.
“We appeal to political and religious leaders in Oyo State to caution the legislators against jeopardising the future of our children.”
