ABUJA — The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to some of its prominent members who have publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that such actions could attract strict disciplinary measures for violating party rules.

The warning comes amid escalating internal discord triggered by prominent defections and overt support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by key PDP figures.

In a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the NWC emphasized that such conduct contravenes Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution, which prohibits members from associating with other political parties or groups in a manner that weakens the PDP.

The party demanded that individuals involved in such activities retract their statements or prepare to face stiffer sanctions.

Quoting the constitution, the statement read: “No member of the party shall align with other parties or groups to undermine the party or any of its elected government.”

The caution follows a wave of public endorsements for President Tinubu by influential PDP stakeholders.

In June, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, openly declared support for President Tinubu, calling himself an asset to the president’s team, despite remaining a PDP member.

Similarly, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, along with the Osun PDP caucus, recently expressed support for Tinubu, describing him as a "proud son of Osun" following stakeholder consultations.

In Ogun State, former governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu and the state chapter also declared support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has equally shown open support for the president, including attending an APC rally, while still identifying as a PDP member.

The NWC condemned these actions, warning that they are causing internal divisions, disaffection, and what it termed a "heavy haemorrhaging" of party members—developments that could severely undermine the PDP’s chances in future elections if not promptly addressed.

By invoking Section 59(1) of the party's constitution, the NWC announced formal reprimands and demanded immediate retractions from the concerned individuals.

The party also called on its members to remain united and committed ahead of the PDP National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

“The NWC charges all members of the party to remain loyal, focused, and work assiduously towards the successful conduct of the PDP National Convention,” the statement concluded.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
