The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the move as a calculated strategy to attract prominent political figures such as Peter Obi, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.

Abdullahi also accused both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of placing political calculations above the urgent needs of Nigerians.

He argued that rolling out zoning arrangements this early shows insensitivity to the struggles of ordinary citizens, especially when the election is still two years away.

“Why are we so preoccupied and behaving in such a way that Nigerians begin to look at the political elite across the divides as if we don’t care about them?” Abdullahi asked.

The PDP had recently confirmed that its presidential ticket for 2027 would be allocated to the South. Similarly, APC governors and party leaders have endorsed President Bola Tinubu as their sole candidate, citing the informal tradition of power rotation between the North and South.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
