Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, sparked reactions on Thursday after asserting that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, is a good man, but those around him may prevent him from realizing his ambitions.

In a post shared on his X account, Ahmad urged Obi’s supporters to advise him to step back from the 2027 presidential race in favor of allowing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete his term.

“Peter is a good person, but the people around him will never allow him to achieve his dream,” Ahmad wrote.

He criticized what he described as “reckless content” shared by Obi’s aides on social media, suggesting that their public posts might mirror even more concerning private counsel.

“With the reckless content you share publicly, one can only imagine the advice you give him in private,” he added.

Ahmad further suggested: “If you truly want him to succeed, advise him to make sacrifices today so others can support him in the future. Encourage him to join us, let President Tinubu finish his mandate in 2031, and then the path forward will be open for everyone.”

His remarks come amid ongoing political maneuvering, with key figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, seeking to prevent Tinubu from securing a second term.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
