Former Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has secured clearance from the Peoples Democratic Party to contest for another term in the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dankwambo, who currently represents Gombe North Senatorial District in the Senate, was among the aspirants cleared by the party’s screening committee for the PDP National Assembly primaries in the state.

His clearance comes amid growing political interest in the Gombe North seat following reports that Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has also been cleared by the All Progressives Congress to contest for the same senatorial position after completing his tenure as governor.

The PDP’s confirmation was contained in a letter issued by the party’s Gombe State Secretariat and addressed to the National Chairman through the National Organising Secretary, forwarding the names of screened aspirants for Senate and House of Representatives positions.

The letter was signed by the Chairman of the Screening Committee, Mohammed Dan’azumi Adamu, Secretary of the Screening Committee, Musa Abubakar, and the PDP State Secretary, Adamu Abubakar.

According to the document, Anthony Siyako Yaro was cleared to contest for the Gombe South Senatorial District seat, while Aliyu Hammadu secured clearance for the Gombe Central Senatorial District.

For the House of Representatives, the party cleared Gidado Alhaji Lawanti for Akko Federal Constituency, Mohammed Lamido for Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency, and Dr. Obed Paul Shehu for Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency.

Others cleared include Dr. Nasir Ibrahim for Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Shu’aibu Umar Galadima for Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency, and Rambi Ibrahim Ayala for Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency.

Dankwambo’s clearance sets the stage for a potentially keenly contested race for the Gombe North Senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.
