The Peoples Redemption Party governorship candidate in Enugu State, Ray Kene Ogbodo, has challenged Governor Peter Mbah to show how increased government revenue and infrastructure spending have improved residents’ living conditions.

In a statement issued at the weekend, Ogbodo acknowledged the administration’s development projects but called for greater attention to jobs, household income, poverty reduction and support for small businesses.

“Are the people of Enugu becoming more prosperous, or is it mainly the government that is becoming wealthier?” he asked.

Ogbodo cited a reported increase in the state’s internally generated revenue from about ₦26.8 billion in 2022 to ₦406.77 billion in 2025. He argued that such growth should produce measurable benefits for families and businesses.

He questioned how many sustainable jobs had been created, how many households had escaped poverty and how much assistance struggling enterprises had received.

While describing roads, schools and hospitals as important, Ogbodo said physical projects should be accompanied by affordable services and measures addressing immediate hardship.

“A modern healthcare facility must also provide accessible and affordable treatment. Development must improve human lives,” he said.

The opposition candidate proposed stronger social protection, support for farmers, youth employment initiatives and targeted assistance for vulnerable households.

He also urged the government to publish a citizens’ welfare scorecard tracking employment, household incomes, poverty reduction and access to essential services across the state.

Ogbodo maintained that his criticism was a call for more inclusive development rather than opposition to infrastructure investment.

The supplied report did not include a response from the Mbah administration.
