2027: RIVERS WILL NOT REPEAT PAST POLITICAL ERRORS — WIKE
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the people of Rivers State will not repeat past political mistakes ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling an early phase of political mobilisation in the state.
Wike made the statement on Tuesday during a visit to Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he disclosed that political activities would officially commence in January 2026.
The former Rivers State governor cautioned residents against making political choices they may later regret, urging them to reflect carefully on past decisions.
“We will not make mistakes again. The first mistake that was made — have they shown appreciation? If another mistake is made, it means people will be pushed aside,” he said.
Although he did not directly mention Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Wike’s remarks were widely interpreted as a subtle reference to the ongoing political tension between both men.
Fubara, who assumed office in 2023 as Wike’s successor, has overseen a deeply divided political environment in Rivers State, with his administration embroiled in a prolonged power struggle over control of the state’s political structure.
The crisis eventually escalated into a constitutional confrontation, resulting in the declaration of a state of emergency and the governor’s suspension.
