2027 UTME: FIVE COMMON MISTAKES CANDIDATES MUST AVOID
Preparing for the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination involves more than studying for a high score. Choosing suitable courses, registering correctly and following official instructions also matter.
JAMB has highlighted five common mistakes candidates should address early to avoid unnecessary setbacks.
1. Starting Preparation Too Late
Waiting until the examination is close can leave little time to cover the syllabus or improve in difficult subjects.
Candidates should create a realistic study timetable, revise consistently and practise past questions alongside syllabus-based learning.
2. Choosing a Course Without Checking Requirements
Before registering, find out which institutions offer your preferred course and what qualifications they require.
Check the relevant O’level credits and other admission conditions rather than selecting a course without understanding its requirements.
3. Selecting the Wrong Subject Combination
A strong UTME score may not secure admission if your chosen subjects do not meet the requirements for your course.
JAMB advised candidates to confirm their combinations through its Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System before registration.
4. Missing Official Updates
Ignoring announcements can lead to missed deadlines or confusion about registration procedures and examination arrangements.
Candidates should follow JAMB’s official communication channels and verify information before acting on messages circulated elsewhere.
5. Entering Incorrect Personal Details
Mistakes in names, dates of birth, NIN information and telephone numbers can create verification difficulties.
Check that your records are accurate and consistent, and carefully review every detail entered at the accredited registration centre before submission.
Early preparation and careful registration can help candidates avoid preventable problems as they work towards admission.
