At least 23 people have been confirmed dead, while 108 others sustained injuries following a series of suicide bomb attacks in Maiduguri on Monday evening, according to the Borno State Police Command.

The coordinated explosions, believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram militants, struck several crowded locations across the city. The affected areas include the Monday Market, the main entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and the Post Office Flyover.

However, local sources suggest the death toll may be significantly higher. Reports indicate that more than 40 individuals, including the attackers, may have died, as some victims reportedly succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical treatment.

In an official statement released early Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, confirmed that the blasts occurred at approximately 7:24 p.m., describing the attacks as devastating.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the incidents were carried out by suspected suicide bombers. Sadly, 23 lives were lost, and 108 others suffered varying degrees of injuries,” he stated.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
