28-YEAR-OLD WOMAN SHOT DEAD BY HUSBAND DAYS AFTER WARNING POLICE ABOUT DEATH THREATS
A 28-year-old woman, Nandini Parihar, has been shot dead by her husband, Arvind Parihar, just days after she publicly warned that her life was in danger.
The shocking incident happened around noon near Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior, one of the city’s busiest areas. Nandini, who had gone to the Superintendent of Police’s office earlier in the day to file another complaint against her abusive husband, was travelling in an auto-rickshaw with two friends when Arvind intercepted her vehicle.
According to witnesses, he fired five bullets at close range, leaving Nandini fatally wounded. The horrifying attack brought traffic to a halt as bystanders fled in panic.
Lawyer MP Singh, who saw the shooting, described the moment:
“I was coming from court when I heard gunshots. He shot her three times in front of everyone. People were frozen in fear—nobody dared stop him.”
After the attack, Arvind reportedly sat next to his wife’s blood-soaked body, waving his pistol and daring anyone to approach. Police had to fire tear gas before subduing and arresting him. Despite being rushed to JAH Hospital, Nandini died two hours later.
This tragedy comes after multiple cries for help. Nandini had filed at least six police complaints since 2024, accusing her husband of domestic abuse, attempted murder, and cyber harassment. She had told the media on September 9 that Arvind was using AI-generated obscene images to harass her, and that he had previously tried to kill her.
In one of her last public statements, Nandini said:
“He’s using AI to create obscene photos and sending them to my family. He has tried to kill me. Nobody is listening to me.”
Police sources say Arvind became enraged after seeing a Facebook video of Nandini at a birthday party with friends, which allegedly pushed him to carry out the attack.
Confirming the incident, police official Heena Khan said:
“A husband shot his wife dead under the jurisdiction of University Police Station. An FIR has been registered, and the accused has been arrested.”
Women’s rights groups have strongly condemned the killing, blaming systemic police inaction for failing to protect Nandini despite her repeated pleas for help.
Gwalior police confirmed that six cases were already pending against Arvind, including attempted murder. He is now facing murder charges, and the weapon has been seized.
The case has reignited national outrage over women’s safety and law enforcement failures in India.
