Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has sparked widespread controversy after confirming his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia, in a series of Instagram posts.

In an initial video shared on his Instagram story, 2Baba revealed the news, stating, “I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now and are currently filing for divorce. I would grant a press release soon to say my story. Not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life, but because I love my people and need them to know my innocence or offence.”

Shortly after the announcement, the singer claimed his account had been hacked in a now-deleted post, only to later backtrack, admitting in another video, “Nobody hacked my account. Na me yarn weytin I yarn. I come in peace.”

The confirmation of their split has drawn sharp criticism from celebrities and social media users, many of whom called out 2Baba for publicly addressing the issue.

TV personality Toke Makinwa condemned the singer’s actions, describing them as “wrong on all levels.” She criticized him for bringing the matter online, especially during such a sensitive time, and vowed to stand by Annie. “You will have to fight us all,” Makinwa declared in her post.

Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku also weighed in, accusing 2Baba of humiliating Annie during her lowest moments. “Annie has a family o! Just make sure she’s healthy and okay. Because when the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you,” she warned.

Actress Uche Elendu expressed her disappointment, labeling the announcement as “insensitive” and a “betrayal.” She criticized 2Baba for seeking public validation despite Annie’s sacrifices for him.

Big Brother Naija star Nina Ivy echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of respect and privacy in relationships. “Ladies, you deserve peace and respect in a relationship. A man who seeks public validation or uses your vulnerabilities against you shows a lack of emotional maturity,” she stated.

While some rallied around Annie, others urged for more empathy and decorum in handling the situation.

Calls made to 2Baba’s management team for clarification went unanswered at the time of filing this report. As fans and critics continue to debate the issue online, the spotlight remains on the once-celebrated couple’s turbulent relationship.
