2Baba Appointed Nigeria’s National Fire Safety Ambassador

The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed iconic music star Innocent “2Baba” Idibia as the country’s National Fire Safety Ambassador, a role designed to boost nationwide awareness on fire prevention and safety.

The appointment was announced by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Samuel Adeyemi, during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week held at the agency’s headquarters.

Adeyemi explained that 2Baba’s new role is aimed at promoting behavioural change and helping Nigerians adopt a proactive approach to fire safety. According to him, preventing fire disasters begins with each individual discarding the belief that such incidents are distant possibilities.

A Week Committed to Safety Awareness

The 2025 Fire Safety Week focused on driving home one central message: fire prevention starts with everyone.

The programme kicked off with a virtual town hall meeting that opened national conversations around safety, followed by the presentation of Bankers’ Cheques to families of fallen and injured fire officers under the Group Life Insurance Scheme.

Other activities during the week included:

Nationwide sensitisation across schools, markets, and major economic hubs

Street roadshows and demonstrations

Practical drills designed to equip citizens with life-saving fire-prevention skills

Presentation of awards, medals, and the prestigious “CG’s Cup”

Adeyemi noted that the response from Nigerians was “remarkable,” highlighting a strengthened national commitment to safety and risk reduction.

Celebrating Safety Champions

The CG also used the closing ceremony to honour individuals and institutions that had demonstrated outstanding dedication to fire safety compliance. Presenting certificates to participants, he urged them to be ambassadors of fire safety within their communities, workplaces, and homes.

Speaking on 2Baba’s appointment, Adeyemi said:
“As a National Fire Safety Ambassador, we expect him to inspire a new generation to embrace a culture of safety.”

With one of Nigeria’s most influential music icons now joining the campaign, authorities hope that public engagement with fire safety will reach new and impactful levels.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
