3 SUSPECTED ‘ONE CHANCE’ ROBBERS ESCAPE MOB ATTACK IN ABUJA
There was tension in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Friday after three suspected ‘one chance’ robbers narrowly escaped being lynched by an angry mob.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at Chicken Junction when the suspects, operating in an unmarked taxi, allegedly tried to rob a female passenger.
According to a witness, Raymond Jonathan, the suspects threatened the woman and demanded her phone and bank account details shortly after she boarded the car. The victim quickly raised an alarm, drawing the attention of passersby who rushed to her rescue.
The crowd reportedly blocked the taxi, dragged out the suspects, and began to attack them. However, the situation took another turn when police operatives arrived in a Hilux van and dispersed the mob.
Spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, confirmed the incident, saying officers responded to a distress call and rescued two badly injured victims found lying on the floor. They were rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja, for treatment.
She added that no arrests were made as the crowd quickly dispersed upon the arrival of security operatives.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly to help curb the menace of ‘one chance’ robberies in the capital city.
