360 LIVES RESTORED: ATIKU CHEERS BRAVE RESCUE OF BOKO HARAM CAPTIVES IN BORNO
In a heartwarming development that has brought relief to many families across Nigeria, former Vice President and prominent politician Atiku Abubakar has warmly welcomed the successful rescue of 360 people held captive by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
Nigerian security forces, in a well-planned intelligence-led operation, freed the hostages including men, women, and children from a mountain hideout in the Mandara hills area, particularly around Ngoshe. Many of these individuals had been abducted since March and endured harsh conditions in the hands of their captors.
Atiku expressed his joy in a statement, saying he was “elated” by the news. He acknowledged the courage and professionalism of the military and other security agencies involved in the operation, describing it as a significant victory that ends the long ordeal for the freed captives and their loved ones.
This rescue comes as a much-needed boost for communities in the Northeast, a region that has suffered tremendously from years of insurgency. For the families of the rescued, it marks the end of sleepless nights filled with fear and uncertainty. Many are now receiving medical care and humanitarian support after their traumatic experience.
Atiku, however, struck a balanced tone. While celebrating this success, he urged the government and security forces to sustain the momentum. He called for intensified efforts to free other Nigerians still in captivity including nearly 100 schoolchildren and teachers recently abducted in Oyo State and other parts of Borno.
Incidents like this remind us of the human cost of insecurity. Every rescued person represents a family reunited, a community regaining strength, and a blow to the terrorists’ grip. It also highlights the dedication of our troops who risk their lives daily to protect civilians.
As Nigerians, we celebrate this victory and pray for the safe return of all remaining hostages. Kudos to the gallant men and women in uniform your efforts are not in vain. And to the families finally breathing easy: welcome home!
