The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has penalized 41 members of the 2024 Batch B, Stream 1, serving in Bayelsa State for various acts of misconduct and violations of the scheme’s code of conduct.

Bayelsa State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, disclosed this during the passing-out ceremony for the batch. She revealed that 14 corps members had their service year extended due to disciplinary issues, while 27 others would be re-mobilised after abandoning their service.

Speaking at the event, which was also attended by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on NYSC Matters, Dr. Wisdom Poyeri, Okpalifo conveyed a goodwill message from the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu. She praised the corps members for their valuable contributions to the state and encouraged them to pursue meaningful employment using skills acquired through the NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program.

Okpalifo also advised the outgoing corps members to remain law-abiding, resilient, and open to personal development, urging them not to fear life after service. She expressed gratitude to the Bayelsa State government and residents for creating a supportive environment for the corps members throughout their service year.

Additionally, she cautioned them against traveling at night and emphasized the importance of using designated motor parks for safety. The event featured the presentation of commendation awards to outstanding corps members and a symbolic issuance of the Certificates of National Service (CNS).
