Residents and businesses in Abia State will experience electricity disruptions for one week, following an announcement by Aba Power, one of Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the company disclosed that the planned outage will run from August 21 to August 28, 2025.

According to Aba Power, the disruption is due to critical maintenance work being carried out by the gas supplier to its primary power provider, Geometric Power Aba Limited (GPAL).

“During this period, we will rely mainly on supply from the national grid to serve our customers. While grid supply may be limited, we assure you that we will do our best to ensure that all stakeholders are duly serviced,” the company said.

The Disco also apologized to customers for the inconvenience and urged them to plan ahead, stressing that the maintenance was necessary to ensure reliable service in the future.

The notice comes as many residents continue to grapple with power shortages across the country, highlighting the challenges of balancing infrastructure maintenance with consumer needs.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
