The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mohammed Shehu, has praised the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti, describing the state as a model of effective governance. Shehu made the commendation while acknowledging what he considered improvements in the management of public resources and the implementation of development programmes in the state.

The RMAFC chairman highlighted the importance of responsible management of revenue and other resources allocated to states, noting that good governance requires transparency, accountability and proper use of public funds. He said Abia’s experience under the present administration demonstrated how available resources could be directed towards projects and programmes capable of improving the welfare of residents.

Otti’s administration has placed emphasis on infrastructure, road construction, public sector reforms and other development initiatives since taking office. The state government has also continued to present its activities as part of efforts to improve the business environment and attract investment, while reforms within the public service have been aimed at strengthening the state’s financial and administrative systems.

The commendation from the RMAFC leadership comes at a time when state governments across Nigeria are facing increasing pressure to demonstrate how public revenue is being managed. The commission plays a key role in issues relating to revenue allocation and fiscal matters, making its assessment of how states handle their resources significant in discussions around financial accountability and development.

While describing Abia as the best-governed state, the RMAFC chairman's comments represent his assessment of the state administration and its performance. The Abia Government is expected to continue its ongoing projects and reforms, while residents and other stakeholders will ultimately assess the administration based on the delivery and sustainability of its policies and development programmes.
