The Abia State Police Command says it has begun investigating a traffic officer captured in a trending Facebook video allegedly attempting to extort money from a Keke NAPEP rider in Umuahia.

The incident reportedly occurred at the Azikiwe Road by Aba Road junction, where a woman recording the video was heard urging the tricycle driver not to give in to the alleged demand for money. The officer, however, denied asking for any bribe.

In a statement, Police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka confirmed that the officer seen in the video has been identified and that the case is currently under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

She added that Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, stressing that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action.

DSP Chinaka further assured the public that the Abia Police Command, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, will remain professional, service-driven, rule-of-law compliant, and people-friendly in carrying out its duties.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
