The Abia State Police Command has successfully rescued three kidnapped victims and arrested suspects linked to the crime. The operation also led to the recovery of a cash ransom of ₦2 million, along with other crucial evidence.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the police revealed that the victims — Onyedikachi Peter Onyegesi from Abia State, and Ifeanyi Nnabuife and Amarachi Nwaebubu, both from Anambra State — were kidnapped at Afojide Market in Isuochi.

Following swift action on the report of the incident, operatives of the Intelligence Response Unit, working alongside other tactical teams, launched a rescue operation on July 12, 2025, at about 5:30 pm, leading to the safe release of the victims.

During the operation, the police recovered notable items including:

A red Lexus 350 Jeep suspected to have been used by the kidnappers

₦2 million in cash, believed to be part of the ransom paid

Three mobile phones

Two leg chain shackles used to restrain the victims

DSP Chinaka confirmed that some of the kidnappers have already been arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation.

She assured the public that the command remains dedicated to fighting crime and safeguarding the lives and property of residents in Abia State.

Residents have also been urged to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely information that could help in tracking criminal activities and ensuring a safer community.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
