The Abia State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of a woman in Umuahia, the state capital, for fatally stabbing her husband, an Immigration officer, over allegations of infidelity.

The state Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, stated, “The suspect was promptly arrested and is being interrogated at the State CID in connection with a murder case.”

According to reports, what began as a domestic dispute ended tragically when the officer, Chidiebere James, serving at the Abia State Command, was killed following a family misunderstanding at their home in Umuihi, Umuogba Ekeoba, Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area.

An eyewitness and close family member confirmed that the deceased’s body had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, adding, “Chidiebere was stabbed in the early hours of Monday, February 16, 2026.”

Sources revealed that the conflict between the couple began on Sunday after a heated argument over their sick child and the officer’s alleged inability to provide money for medical treatment. The disagreement escalated when the wife accused her husband of infidelity after discovering what she claimed were incriminating text messages on his phone.

The matter was temporarily settled following the intervention of the deceased’s sister and other family members. However, tensions resurfaced early Monday morning, leading to another confrontation inside the family home.

During the renewed quarrel, the couple reportedly engaged in a physical struggle, during which the husband’s phone was damaged. In retaliation, he allegedly seized and destroyed his wife’s phone.

It was at this point that the woman allegedly picked up a nearby pair of scissors and stabbed her husband. He collapsed shortly afterward and was later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

Confirming the incident, the traditional ruler of Ekeoba Ancient Kingdom, Oba Iheanyi Nwokenna, said, “I have just been informed about it. I am returning from a trip.”

The shocking incident has plunged the Umuihi Umuogba community in Ekeoba into mourning, with residents expressing concern over the rising cases of domestic violence and marital disputes across the country.
