Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged traditional rulers in Ogun State to foster a peaceful and investor-friendly environment, warning that hostility toward investors could hinder economic growth.

Speaking on Thursday at the Statutory Meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Oba’s Complex in Abeokuta, the governor expressed concern over reports of uncooperative attitudes in communities, particularly in Yewa South, Ipokia, and Ijebu North.

Abiodun condemned actions that discourage investors, noting that such investments bring significant capital capable of driving job creation, infrastructure development, and overall socio-economic progress.

“We have received disturbing reports about the conduct of some communities during recent investor engagements. This is unacceptable,” he said, stressing that investors must be welcomed and supported.

The governor called on traditional rulers to take responsibility for ensuring peace and cooperation within their domains, highlighting their critical role in facilitating development and attracting investment.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting investments, warning that actions capable of undermining investor confidence would not be tolerated.

Beyond investment concerns, Abiodun urged residents and traditional institutions to remain vigilant amid rising insecurity in parts of the country, encouraging prompt reporting of suspicious activities to security agencies.

He also cautioned against indiscriminate land allocation and involvement in land disputes, describing land as a vital economic asset that must be managed responsibly.

“Our land is our oil. It must not be allocated carelessly,” he said.

The governor further warned landlords against renting properties to individuals involved in criminal activities, adding that any building found to be used for unlawful purposes would be demolished.

The meeting, which addressed key issues of security and development, also featured the presentation of 40 utility vehicles to traditional rulers to enhance their administrative and community engagement roles.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
