Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, has openly criticised former presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of being too desperate to lead Nigeria.

In a statement personally signed on Thursday, Abure claimed that Obi was responsible for the ongoing crisis within the Labour Party. He argued that the former Anambra State governor’s attempts to control the party have led him to act irrationally.

“This is why we have maintained that Peter Obi lacks the competence, character, and capacity to actualise the vision of a new Nigeria,” Abure stated.

He further accused Obi of betraying the goodwill of the party leadership, turning support into conflict. According to Abure, Obi is now using the crisis he created as a reason for Nigerians to avoid voting for the party.

Abure’s comments come in response to Obi’s recent call for his supporters to back the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for August 16 across the country.

The feud highlights ongoing tensions within the Labour Party and raises questions about party unity ahead of the electoral contests.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
