Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr, has shared her excitement over making her acting debut in the upcoming American fantasy film, Children of Blood and Bone.

In a recent interview with CBS, Starr opened up about her experience on set, revealing that the discipline and demands of acting were far different from what she’s used to in the music industry. She said the experience taught her punctuality and hard work, leading her to develop a newfound respect for actors.

“This is my first time ever acting in a movie,” she said. “I’m used to being the singer, the diva on set, but in film, it’s not about you. You have to show up on time, follow a strict schedule. It pushed me to adapt to military timing and a whole new level of effort. I respect actors so much more now—their stamina is amazing.”

Although music remains her first love, Starr admitted she has always been drawn to acting but was once too shy to pursue it. “This is the first time I’ve been in front of a camera without singing, and it felt incredible. I learned so much from everyone, not just the big stars,” she added.

Children of Blood and Bone is based on the bestselling novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film features a star-studded cast including Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Thuso Mbedu.

The movie is set for release by Paramount Pictures on January 15, 2027.
