ADAMAWA DECLARES MONDAY WORK-FREE TO HONOUR LATE BAMANGA TUKUR
The Adamawa State Government has declared Monday a work-free day across the state to honour the late former Minister of Industry, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who died recently. The declaration was made by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri as the state prepares to pay its final respects to one of its prominent political figures and elder statesmen.
The government said the decision would allow residents, public servants and other stakeholders to participate in activities marking Tukur’s burial and to honour his contributions to Adamawa State and Nigeria. The late politician was widely recognised for his long involvement in public service and national politics, having held several important positions during his career.
Tukur served as Minister of Industry under former President Olusegun Obasanjo and also held the position of Governor of the defunct Gongola State between 1983 and 1985. He was also a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, making him one of the prominent figures in Nigeria’s political history.
Governor Fintiri described the late elder statesman as a respected son of Adamawa whose contributions to the development of the state and the country would not be forgotten. The governor called on residents to use the occasion to honour Tukur’s memory and recognise his years of service to the people.
The work-free day is expected to enable people across Adamawa to attend the burial ceremonies and other activities associated with the funeral. The state government also extended its condolences to Tukur’s family, associates and other Nigerians who mourn the death of the former governor, minister and political leader.
