ADC ACCUSES APC OF VOTER REGISTRATION FRAUD AHEAD OF OSUN GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised alarm over what it described as an alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the upcoming Osun State governorship election through irregular voter registration practices.

In a statement released on Friday, Abosede Oluwaseun, Publicity and Organising Secretary of the Omoluabi Progressives caucus within the ADC, accused the APC of registering non-residents from neighbouring states such as Oyo, Ondo, and Lagos into Osun’s voters’ register.

According to the ADC, some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been compromised to allow multiple registrations, while in other cases, APC operatives were allegedly transferring voter cards belonging to supporters in other states into Osun.

Oluwaseun described the move as “a sophisticated attempt at rigging and a direct assault on the will of the people,” warning that such activities threatened the credibility of the state’s democratic process.

He also questioned INEC’s recent announcement of 393,269 new voter registrations in Osun within just eight days, calling the figure “suspicious” and evidence of the APC’s alleged “win at all costs” strategy.

The ADC linked these actions to what it called the anti-people policies of the APC-led federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the ruling party of worsening poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship across Nigeria.

The opposition party urged Osun residents to stay vigilant and resist any form of electoral manipulation, insisting that “Osun must not become a testing ground for electoral fraud.” It further called on voters to reject the APC in the state’s August 8, 2026, governorship election.

However, the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mutiu Agboke, dismissed the allegations, stressing that the voter registration exercise was being carried out transparently and in line with INEC’s guidelines.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
