ADC MOVES TO EXPAND INFLUENCE AHEAD OF 2027, INVITES KEY LEADERS TO JOIN
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stepped up initiatives to broaden its political base ahead of the 2027 general election, urging prominent figures—including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Senate President Bukola Saraki—to consider joining the party.
The call coincided with the inauguration of the party’s North-East Zonal Congress Committee, which the ADC described as part of a renewed drive to strengthen internal structures, promote democracy within the party, and position itself as a credible national alternative.
ADC factional National Chairman, Nafiu Gombe, revealed this in a communiqué issued on Tuesday following the inauguration held in Gombe State on January 11. The event, organised by the party’s national leadership, was presided over by Dr. Muhammad Muhammad.
In the statement, Gombe highlighted the inauguration as a crucial step in consolidating the party’s presence in the North-East and ensuring transparent and credible congresses across the zone.
Key appointments ratified during the event included Mrs. Patience Alex as Chairperson of the North-East Zonal Congress Committee and Mr. Abayomi Adekunle as Chairman of the Zonal Appeal Committee.
Gombe emphasised that these developments reflect the ADC’s commitment to deepening internal democracy and building a platform capable of attracting Nigerians from across political divides. He also extended a direct invitation to serving governors, elder statesmen, and national leaders to join the party.
“The authentic national leadership of the ADC passionately invites the following eminent personalities to join the party in its mission to rebuild and reposition Nigeria: Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio,” Gombe said.
He added that the party values their experience, leadership, and patriotism as essential to uniting efforts toward making Nigeria great again.
The ADC reiterated its commitment to providing a credible, inclusive, and progressive platform focused on good governance, national unity, and sustainable development. The party further stressed its intention to mobilise Nigerians nationwide in support of a political direction anchored on accountability, equity, and collective progress.
This move comes amid shifting political alignments, just two weeks after Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, joined the ADC led by David Mark—an event that has sparked speculation about emerging alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
