A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims that the party is being positioned as a political platform for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of future elections.

Speaking amid growing political speculation, the party leader stressed that the ADC remains an independent political movement focused on national development not a “special purpose vehicle” for any individual ambition. According to him, the party’s structure and vision are built around inclusiveness, internal democracy, and broader participation.

The clarification comes as conversations intensify around potential political realignments in Nigeria. With the 2027 elections still some distance away, several parties are already seeing increased attention from politicians exploring new alliances and platforms.

Addressing these speculations, the ADC chieftain emphasized that while the party is open to new members, it will not compromise its identity or core principles to serve any single political figure. He added that all aspirants would be expected to follow due process and compete fairly within the party’s framework.

The statement appears aimed at reassuring party members and supporters that the ADC’s long-term vision goes beyond individual personalities. It also reflects ongoing efforts by smaller parties to position themselves as credible alternatives in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

As political maneuvering gradually builds momentum, such clarifications highlight a key issue whether emerging parties can maintain independence while attracting high-profile figures seeking new platforms.
