The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced bold plans to give Nigerian youths a bigger role in governance, promising that 35% of both elective and appointed positions will be reserved for young people.

This commitment was made during a meeting in Abuja between the party’s young members and its Interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark.

ADC National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai, explained that the party is determined to break away from old political traditions and create a platform where young Nigerians can lead and influence the country’s direction.

“Our focus is on youth inclusion and a real generational shift in leadership,” Rufai said, stressing that the party wants to empower young people to play a decisive role in shaping Nigeria’s future.

Senator Mark threw his full weight behind the initiative, describing it as the right step for national progress.

“The combination of the young and the old generation is the best thing for the country. My generation is ready to pave the way for the younger generation. It’s a generational shift; we want to transfer power to the youth,” he said.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the ADC says it is committed to giving young Nigerians not just a seat at the table, but a chance to lead it.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
