ADEKUNLE GOLD UNVEILS ‘5 STAR CARE’ TO UPLIFT SICKLE CELL WARRIORS ON WORLD SICKLE CELL DAY

Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold is using his voice for more than music—he’s using it to make a difference in the lives of people living with sickle cell disease.

To mark World Sickle Cell Day, the award-winning singer launched a powerful new initiative called “5 Star Care.” In partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Sickle Cell Management Initiative, this program will provide free health insurance to 1,000 sickle cell warriors in Lagos.

For Adekunle Gold, this is more than a campaign—it’s deeply personal. Having lived with sickle cell anaemia since birth, he has openly shared his journey through painful health crises and the emotional toll of growing up with a widely misunderstood condition.

“5 Star Care isn’t just an initiative, it’s a promise,” the singer shared. “A promise to ensure that sickle cell warriors are seen, heard, and cared for.”

This new programme is an extension of Adekunle Gold’s previous efforts to support others with the condition. He previously organized a medical outreach that helped over 300 people, and even launched a scholarship for individuals living with sickle cell to study music business.

Through “5 Star Care,” Adekunle hopes to bring long-term impact—not just awareness, but real help. He emphasized that although the initial phase is focused on 1,000 people, this is just the beginning.

“We’re starting small,” he said, “but this is only the beginning.”

By turning his personal pain into purpose, Adekunle Gold is showing that compassion and action can go hand-in-hand—and that being a “5 Star” goes beyond the stage.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
