Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commenced a vacation in Europe and ordered an investigation into the disputed kingship of Koka town in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.

The governor left the country for a short vacation during which he is also expected to undergo medical examinations, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

Rasheed said Adeleke would spend time in the United Kingdom and other destinations, which would be announced by the government.

The governor, while explaining the reason for the break, said he was taking time off to refresh and prepare himself to continue serving the people of Osun State.

During his absence, Adeleke also directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment of another king for Koka Ilase.

The development has reportedly resulted in a situation where two individuals are laying claim to the traditional stool of the town.

The governor ordered the ministry to review the matter and ensure that due process was followed in line with the state’s chieftaincy laws and traditional practices.

Adeleke said he became aware of reports that another king had been appointed outside the person already occupying the traditional stool.

He therefore directed the ministry to investigate the dispute and submit a report to clarify the situation and establish the facts surrounding the competing claims.

The governor also appealed to all stakeholders in the dispute to remain peaceful while the government carries out its investigation.

Adeleke stressed that traditional leadership is governed by existing laws and regulations, adding that his administration would uphold both the law and the traditions of the people.

The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is expected to take the necessary steps after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the disputed appointment.
