Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo ahead of the inauguration of the newly completed Okefia Flyover Bridge.

The governor gave the directive during an inspection of the bridge on Sunday, expressing concern over its deteriorating condition, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday.

The statement noted that Adeleke made a stop at the bridge and ordered the Ministry of Works to immediately assess its condition and carry out necessary repairs.

He also directed the ministry to clean up the bridge, fix all identified defects and ensure that it complements the newly constructed Okefia and Lameco flyover bridges.

“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset. We must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Okefia Bridge,” the governor noted.

Adeleke stressed that his administration remained committed to maintaining existing public infrastructure while completing inherited projects.

“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government, and all completed projects by the previous administrations must be appropriately maintained,” he added.

The Olaiya Bridge, located in the heart of Osogbo, is one of the state’s major transport links, connecting several parts of the capital city and serving thousands of commuters daily.

The rehabilitation directive comes as the Adeleke administration prepares to inaugurate the Okefia Flyover, one of its flagship infrastructure projects designed to ease traffic congestion and improve road connectivity within Osogbo.

The Lameco Flyover is another major road infrastructure project undertaken by the state government to enhance transportation in the capital.

Since assuming office in November 2022, Adeleke has repeatedly stated that his administration would complete viable inherited projects while embarking on new infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving economic activities and the quality of life of residents across the state.
