AFCON 2025: OSIMHEN NAMED SUPER EAGLES’ ASSISTANT CAPTAIN, FIRST-CHOICE PENALTY TAKER
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been named the main assistant captain of the Super Eagles.
He will deputise for newly appointed captain Wilfred Ndidi and has also been designated as the team’s new penalty taker.
The leadership reshuffle follows the retirement of former captain William Troost-Ekong, who previously held both the captaincy and penalty duties.
Ndidi was officially named team captain last week. Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon remain the team’s other senior players, each having represented the Super Eagles for nearly a decade. Iwobi is currently the most capped player, followed by Simon.
According to SCORENigeria, Osimhen earned the appointment due to his unwavering commitment to the national team.
