Renowned producer and music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, says Afrobeats remains a “baby” genre on the global stage despite its remarkable achievements.

He explained that the industry is constantly evolving, and artistes, producers, and stakeholders are still learning and adapting to its rapid changes.

Don Jazzy also pointed out that the cost of promoting Nigerian music has risen significantly in recent years. He added that he remains open to gaining knowledge from people who have succeeded in areas he has yet to explore.

In a detailed post on X, he wrote:

“This our beloved Afrobeats is still a baby genre in the grand scheme of things. We are all still learning every day as the game keeps changing. If you told me six years ago that an Afrobeats video could cost over 20 million naira, I would have said that’s too much. But today, some of us have spent over 100,000 dollars on videos.

“If Burna tells me what it takes to do multiple international stadium shows, I’ll take notes because I’ve never done that before. If Dangote explains what it costs to build a refinery in Lagos, I’ll sit and learn.

“That said, if I tell you how to run a successful record label in Nigeria, I’ll advise you to take notes — even if it’s a small note — because not many of us have done it successfully.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
