AGATU LG CHAIRMAN CONDEMNS KILLING OF FOUR IN FRESH BENUE ATTACK
The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh, has strongly condemned the killing of four people in Egwuma and Ogbai communities of Benue State.
The victims — including a mother and her son — were murdered on Wednesday in what he described as a barbaric and senseless attack by suspected Fulani terrorists.
“This is an unprovoked attack on our people. It’s senseless and barbaric. How could anyone attack and kill a mother and her son who were simply working on their farm?” Hon. Ejeh lamented.
He, however, praised the swift response of security operatives, noting that the joint efforts of Operation Whirl Stroke, the Nigeria Police Force, the Civil Defence Corps, and Operation Anyam Nyor prevented further casualties.
The LG boss also commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his commitment to tackling insecurity in Benue, stressing that his leadership has been vital in supporting Agatu during repeated attacks.
Recognising Agatu’s peculiar challenges such as its swampy terrain and poor road network, Hon. Ejeh urged local youths to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in sharing intelligence with security agencies.
He expressed deep condolences to the affected families, assuring them that the council will continue working with security forces, traditional rulers, and the state government to protect communities from future attacks.
“This is a tragic loss for all of us, and we stand together in grief and solidarity,” he said.
