AISHA YESUFU DECRIES FCT TEACHERS’ STRIKE, URGES WIKE’S INTERVENTION
Activist Aisha Yesufu has called on Nyesom Wike to urgently intervene in the ongoing teachers’ strike in the Federal Capital Territory.
Her reaction follows the decision of the Nigeria Union of Teachers to begin an indefinite strike over unresolved welfare issues and the non-implementation of a committee report submitted since August 2025.
Yesufu said teachers do not go on strike without serious provocation, warning that the biggest victims would be schoolchildren rather than government officials.
She urged authorities to release the pending report, implement agreed entitlements, resolve promotion delays, and end recurring labour disputes affecting education.
According to her, prolonged closure of classrooms would hurt children who rely on public education as a pathway to opportunity.
The union had directed teachers across the six area councils of Abuja to withdraw services until their demands are met.
